Understanding diversity of interpretations through analysis of context, point of view, and frame of reference
When interpreting the message of a document, there are prior things you have to learn before you can fully understand the writers message. When you come across a document you have to see where it is coming from. A person’s point of view is highly affected by what region of the world he or she is from. For example a man from the Middle East did not have the same reaction of women’s freedom than a man from a Western society. Other things that affect point of view are culture, social class, education, religion, and personal interest. We have learned understand the diversity of interpretations using our own analysis of the point of view, the context, and the frame of reference. This is different than simply finding the point of view of documents in a DBQ essay. This skill requires us to actually put ourselves in their place and try to infer what they were thinking and how one persons point of view about a situation is different from the other person's point of view. You also need some prior reference or knowledge because this helps you sort things out with the information. When looking at a document, I look to see if is this person is a ruler, a peasent, a scholar, or even a woman, since they all look at things in a different way than each other. Then, I see at their situation; are they having economic troubles, political disputes, social disorder or trade conflicts, whichever the case, they express themselves in a certain tone that can tell if they are under any stress. The content of their speech, letter or interview, tells us exactly what they are living through and how this situation has affected them
