Comparing within and among societies, including comparing societies' reactions to global processes.
Another skill we have had to demonstrate this year has been to compare within and among societies and their reactions to global affairs. This skill has been shown through the comparison essays in which we had to compare two different societies. Comparing is very basic, for the most part. Before I took this class and even in the beginning of the year, I never really compared anything related to history. I'd just read the information and remember it instead of making connections. I have noticed that in history societies always develop in different ways due to the regions values, including religious followings, and also the influence of foreigners that shaped the way a society would function and grow. It was a continuous pattern that has followed people since the beginning of time. Now, in the present, people develop not as much around people and their actions but rather more on technological advances that speed up the way humans communicate. To be able to compare societies and reactions, we have to know our history. We must understand everything about a society’s culture and beliefs. That's what helped me understand certain reactions to our changing world. One way we learned to understand reactions was through the DBQ's by reading sources and personal opinions from the past; we can see the reasons behind reactions. The most important tool though was my textbook, without the reading you cannot possibly understand, analyze, or compare societies. The most challenging part about a comparison essay is having to analyze everything you state. At first I would simply state the similarities and differences in regions. Although now I can simply analyze much smoother and briefly than I ever did. Writting so many essays has improved my writting in so many ways that writting an essay is the easiest thing to do now since before I use to struggle.
